The international reality programme highlights some of the most well-known hip hop musicians as they reveal the ins and outs of the music business. It is known for showing hip hop stars juggling their jobs, relationships, and family dynamics.
Leading the cast are Mzansi’s hip hop recording artist and record producer Da L.E.S, nicknamed “The North God,” award-winning hip hop musician Gigi Lamayne, and “Utatakho” hitmaker Yanga Chief. Yanga Chief is no stranger to the MTV stable after placing third on MTV Base Hottest MC in 2019.
Shane Eagle will add some spice to the mix by sharing some of the juicy details of his 12-year relationship with artist and model Nicole “Nikki” Swartz as well as how he won the Best Hip Hop Album South African Music Award in 2018. It would be fascinating to watch Eagle let the cameras inside his world as he is well-known to have a sizable following base despite his propensity to keep his private life off social media.
In the 13-episode story of the group’s love life, personal challenges, objectives, and accomplishments, “Mayo” hitmaker, Hip Hop culturalist and broadcaster DJ Speedsta, and Motswako First Lady, Fifi Cooper, add their names to the reality star cast.
The stunning starlet Money Badoo will be included in “Love & Hip Hop SA” in addition to the SA hip hop legends. Recently, it was discovered that DJ Speedsta, Yanga, Money, and Da L.E.S were hanging out together in the Mother City.
J Molley, an opinionated rapper, singer, and songwriter who never shies away from stirring up a controversy with his ideas on life and hip hop, will be in top form. Along with his girlfriend, Elana, he will provide viewers with an update on his struggle with mental illness. There is a lot to look forward to in the debut season of “Love & Hip Hop SA,” according to Gigi Lamayne.
“A highlight for me was confronting the Gigi Lamayne versus Fifi Cooper situation that has been looming for the longest time within South African hip hop when it comes to female rappers.
“Apart from that, I have been a staunch follower of the franchise for the longest time, and I always imagined myself to be on the show, so I am very excited for this experience,” shared the award- winning rapper.“
DA L.E.S said: “The current state of South African hip hop is beautiful, and this platform will really allow me to share my knowledge on the industry.
“We have a very rich African hip hop culture and I am looking forward to offering my space and showing the trials and tribulations I’ve been through in the industry. ‘Love & Hip Hop SA’ is the best place to do it.”
As DA L.E.S and Yanga separately prepare to host events that will light up Johannesburg’s Summer in the first episode, Idea Collective Productions’ executive producers Vuyisa Xaba and Lindiwe Magubane and director Mohube Rapodile are laying up the red carpet for the first episode.
The plot of the problematic trio consisting of DJ Speedsta, Yanga, and Da L.E.S is exposed at a business meeting between Gigi Lamayne and new starlet Money Badoo.
“The Mzansi version of the ‘Love & Hip Hop’ franchise will have viewers on the edge of their seats, and, importantly, become yet another paramount Africa platform to export our talent internationally,” said senior vice president and general manager of Paramount Africa and Lead BET International, Monde Twala.
“Love & Hip Hop SA” premières on February 27 on MTV Africa (DStv Channel 130) at 9.30pm PM CAT.
